Difference Between Air Purifiers and Air Cleaners

July 17, 2022

Manufacturers design air cleaners and purifiers to improve indoor air quality, but they have different approaches. Read on to understand the differences between air purifiers and air cleaners so that you can choose the right one for your home in Woodbine, GA.

What’s an Air Cleaner?

An air cleaner is a device that has a filter inside of it to trap contaminants before they can get into your home. It’s effective at removing and reducing particle pollutants like dust, dirt, pollen and dander.

What’s an Air Purifier?

An air purifier is an electronic device that sanitizes and freshens indoor air by removing bacteria, viruses and more. An air purifier draws in air through filters that trap pollutants before releasing clean air back into your room.

Air Purifiers v Air Cleaners

Air cleaners attract airborne pollutants and collect them on a surface for easy disposal. These devices can do that with an electrostatic filter.

Air cleaners use polarized light technology to capture small particles. The mechanical filters in air cleaners build up an electrical charge that bonds to airborne particles. Once the particle has bonded, it sticks to the filter.

On the other hand, air purifiers use ozone or ultraviolet rays to clean the air before releasing it back into your home. One method sprays harmless ozone molecules at contaminants.

The other method sends out UV rays that break down molecules into atoms. This action renders many harmful substances harmless without producing anything toxic.
